General Notes for Orpah Frazier
Birth: Aug. 3, 1820 North Carolina, USA
Death: Jul. 27, 1894 Henry County, Iowa, USA
Though her name was spelled Orpah in her Family Bible and obituary, she seems to have pronounced it Orpha, as that's what it was in every census.
Salem Weekly News August 2, 1894
Frazier- Orpah. Died at her home three miles east of Salem, July 27th, 1894. Aged nearly 74 years. Orpah Pidgeon was a daughter of Isaac and Phebe Pidgeon was born in North Carolina, Aug. 3d, 1820. Came with her parents to Iowa in 1835 and was married to Elihu Frazier in Friends Church at Salem. She was the mother of nine children, seven of whom are living. Her husband, one daughter and one son have gone on before.
The deceased being one of the pioneers of his country, passed through and understood the hardships of life, then the "gold-fever' of California took her husband for years to the west, leaving her with the entire care and responsibility of the home and family. These cares she bravely, nobly met. On the third of Dec. last she was stricken with paralysis, since when she has lingered in quite a helpless condition until her death. During her life, she has ever been very conscientious, and in the long months of her affliction she manifested fully her Christian faith and life. On Sabbath the 29th a large concourse of relations and friends followed the remains to Friends' Cemetery and attended the solemn service at Friends church. 2 Cor. 5:10 was the text from which Levi Gregory preached with much earnestness and brother Pool followed with prayer. Thus we bade adieu to another Old Settler.
