General Notes for Thomas Trobert Boles | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1910 Obituary: Thomas T Boles was born in Washington County, Indiana, December 30th, 1824. When he was a boy his parents moved to Coles county, Illinois where he was brojght up. He was united in marriage to Harriet J. Treash, January 9, 1859. To this union nine children were born, four of whom with the wife and mother preceeded him. One daughter, Mrs. Hattie Morrill, living near Liberal and four sons, John, near Liberal; Edwin seventeen miles west of Liberal; Charles H., San Antonio, Tecas and W.S. Boles, Enid, Oklahoma and several grandchildren are left to mourn.
In 1862 he joined the Union army, becoming a member of Company B 123 Illinois Volunteers of Mounted Infantry. He participated in many hard fought battles during the war. He came to southwest Kansas in February 1887, enduring the hardships of pioneer life. He with his family have had no little part in molding the life in Seward and Stevens counties. In early life he united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church. He was an officer in the church many years and a faithful and influential member unto the end. He was that type of Presbyterian life which commands respect and is commended by right-thinking people everywhere. He stood for the best things. He was on the right side of every moral question. He was a good citizen and reared his family well, each member being a highly respected and influential person in the community in which they reside.
He had high regard for the men engaged in the ministry. His religious views were broad, liberal and charitable. While he was loyal and faithful at all times to his own church, he never hesitated to work and worship with others when an opportunity was offered. Father Boles will be missed in the home, the church and the community.
He had no organic disease during his illness. He simply lived his span of life and the machine ran down. As life slowly ebbed away he was ever cheerful, trustful and patient till the end came, August 30th. He approached the grave "Like one who wraps the drapery of his couch about him, and lies down to pleasant dreams."
A brief service was held at the home of his son John L. Boles, where kind hands and loving hearts had attended him during his sickness. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church and were conducted by Rev. L. R. Hoff assisted by Rev. T. B. Paramore and Mr. J. T. Kirkpatrick, an intimate friend of the deceased.
