General Notes for Charles Walker Raymond
Charles Walker Raymond graduated Brooklyn Polytechnic Instition and then attended West Point Academy. As a cadet he was commissioned Lieutenant and service at Gettysburg under General Couch. He returned to West Point and graduated head of the class of 1865. Through the late 1860's he worked in Alaska mapping the Yukon River. Later he designed the water supply system for West Point, and the Delaware Breakwater. President Theodore Roosevelt offered him the job of Chief Engineer for the construction of the Panama Canel but he had to decline due to failing eye sight.
