General Notes for John Carrington Raymond
In 1897, (as indicated by his album and diary) John was in the Balayan, Philippines. There he was an calvery soldier. He had several horses (Hope, Dixie and Fleet), as he was arriving his horses were to be lowered in individual wooden crates onto a lighter. The lighter (boat) was to take them to the shore. With each attempt the crate's gate opened sending the horse into the water, fortunately all three horses were able to safely swim to shore.

The photo of John and Marion are brother and sister (not father and daughter since the father died in 1909).
